โรงเรียนเตรียมอุดมศึกษาพัฒนาการ ปทุมธานี ที่อยู่เลขที่ ๘๐/๔ หมู่ ๕ ตำบลลำลูกกา อำเภอลำลูกกา จังหวัดปทุมธานี เดิมชื่อว่า“โรงเรียนลำลูกกา” ได้รับการประกาศจัดตั้งจากกระทรวงศึกษาธิการ เมื่อปี พ.ศ. ๒๕๑๐ ในปีแรกได้เปิดทำการเรียนการสอนในระดับชั้นมัธยมศึกษาตอนต้น โดยได้ฝากนักเรียนไปเรียนที่โรงเรียนประชาบาลลำลูกกา (โรงเรียนชุมชนเลิศพินิจพิทยาคมในปัจจุบัน) และในปีต่อมา อาคารเรียนชั่วคราวหลังแรกแล้วเสร็จ จึงได้ย้ายนักเรียนมาเรียนที่โรงเรียนที่เป็นที่ตั้งปัจจุบัน โรงเรียนได้พัฒนาการเรียนการสอนได้อย่างเจริญก้าวหน้า มีจำนวนนักเรียนเพิ่มขึ้นมาเป็นลำดับ ต่อมาในปี พ.ศ. ๒๕๒๓ โรงเรียนได้เปิดทำการเรียนการสอน ในระดับมัธยมศึกษาตอนปลาย พร้อมกับในช่วงเวลานั้นกระทรวงศึกษาธิการมีนโยบายไม่ต้องการให้นักเรียนเข้า ไปเรียนในโรงเรียน ชื่อดังในกรุงเทพฯ ผู้อำนวยการโรงเรียนในขณะนั้นคือ นางทิพรัตน์ เด่นดำรงวิทย์ จึงขอเปลี่ยนชื่อจากโรงเรียนลำลูกกา เป็นโรงเรียนเตรียมอุดมศึกษาพัฒนาการ ลำลูกกา ใช้อักษรย่อ ต.อ.พ.ล. ตามประกาศกระทรวงศึกษาธิการกระทรวงศึกษาธิการ โดย ฯพณฯ รัฐมนตรีว่าการกระทรวงศึกษาธิการ เมื่อวันที่ ๙ มิถุนายน พ.ศ. ๒๕๔๖ เพื่อตอบสนองความต้องการของชุมชนและท้องถิ่นของอำเภอลำลูกกาและสอดคล้องกับ นโยบายกระทรวงศึกษาธิการที่จะพัฒนาคุณภาพสถานศึกษาขั้นพื้นฐานโดยระบบเครือ ข่าย ซึ่งจะนำไปสู่การพัฒนาโรงเรียนคุณภาพตามแนวทางพระราชบัญญัติการศึกษาแห่ง ชาติ พุทธศักราช ๒๕๔๒ ในวันที่ ๒๑ มกราคม พ.ศ. ๒๕๕๗ โรงเรียนเตรียมอุดมศึกษาพัฒนาการ ลำลูกกา ได้เปลี่ยนชื่อเป็น โรงเรียนเตรียมอุดมศึกษาพัฒนาการ ปทุมธานี เพื่อสนองนโยบายของโรงเรียนเตรียมอุดมศึกษาพัฒนาการ กรุงเทพฯ ที่ต้องการให้มีโรงเรียนเตรียมอุดมศึกษาพัฒนาการ ประจำจังหวัดปทุมธานี มีเนื้อที่ ๒๔ ไร่ ๑ งาน ๙๔ ตารางวา

ปัจจุบันโรงเรียนเตรียมอุดมศึกษาพัฒนาการ ปทุมธานี ตั้งอยู่เลขที่ ๘๐/๔ หมู่ ๕ ตำบลลำลูกกา อำเภอลำลูกกา จังหวัด ปทุมธานี สังกัดสำนักงานคณะกรรมการการศึกษาขั้นพื้นฐาน สำนักงานเขตพื้นที่การศึกษามัธยม ศึกษา เขต ๔ โทรศัพท์ ๐๒ ๕๖๙๑๐๕๑ โทรสาร ๐๒ ๕๖๙ ๑๐๕๑๒ เปิดสอนตั้งแต่ระดับ มัธยมศึกษาปีที่ ๑ ถึงระดับมัธยมศึกษาปีที่ ๖
